The city of Chicago continues to demonstrate the folly of electing woke so-called leaders to represent the community, as was exemplified over the last several months during contentious debates that divided the Chicago City Council regarding a proposed Gaza ceasefire resolution in response to the Hamas-instigated war Israel is now fighting.
Last week, the council convened for what turned out to be a raucous meeting, with Mayor Brandon Johnson having to clear chambers at one point as pro-Hamas protesters repeatedly erupted and shouted as the ceasefire resolution was debated. At one point, one of the agitators called the only Jewish council member, Ald. Debra Silverstein, a “liar” as she talked about the atrocities Hamas committed on Oct. 7th, which is what led to Johnson’s move to have the public removed from the chambers.
As proof, Silverstein passed out news clippings of a New York Times report detailing sexual assaults committed by Hamas. In response, the resolution’s sponsor, Ald. Daniel La Spata, ignored it:

Ald. Byron Sigcho Lopez also dismissed evidence of Hamas rapes:

When it was all said and done, there was a tie vote, which was broken when Johnson cast the deciding vote in favor of the resolution.
“I will exercise my vote and my right, and I vote ‘aye,’” Johnson, a Democrat, announced as anti-Israel activists clapped and cheered wildly.

The Israeli Consulate responded accordingly to the Council’s vote, correctly pointing out that while it will have zero impact (just as a resolution passed by an Israeli city calling for a ceasefire in Chicago would), it will only embolden anti-Semitism here in the United States:
“Today, a divided Chicago City Council adopted a highly controversial resolution calling on Israel to engage in an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
This resolution undermines the position of the Biden Administration, the International Court of Justice, and the European Union and the overwhelming majority of Americans who understand that the release of all the hostages held in Gaza and dismantling Hamas’ terrorist infrastructure are preconditions to any ceasefire.
While this resolution will have no impact in the Middle East, it will create more division among communities in Chicago and inspire more antisemitism, as we saw on the floor and in the galleries of City Hall today.
We commend the Alders who sought to find a consensus and voted against this polarizing resolution.”
Even Illinois’ Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker denounced the vote:

I should note that on the same day elected Chicago officials debated and passed the resolution, this happened:
One teen was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting near a high school in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.
According to authorities, CPR was in progress for at least one victim following a shooting in the 1200 block of West Thorndale Avenue, near Nicholas Senn High School.
Fire officials later confirmed that three teens, all males, were wounded in the shooting, two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old.
At a press conference Wednesday evening, Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling confirmed that one of the teens had died and that all three were CPS students.

Mayor Brandon Johnson also spoke during the update, pleading against violence as the city reels from its second fatal shooting outside a high school in less than a week.

Johnson himself made a statement during the police presser:
My heart bleeds with our city tonight after more unspeakable violence against our children today. No family deserves this pain.
We must value human life in Chicago, and continue our work toward safety, toward respecting humanity, and toward healing the scars of our communities. pic.twitter.com/aLHjOaVFYY

It did not go unnoticed that while Chicago voted in favor of a ceasefire resolution for the Israel-Hamas war, they can’t manage to get anything in the way of a meaningful ceasefire going in their own backyard:
Chicago can’t even achieve a cease-fire in their own city so virtue-signaling will have to do. https://t.co/moa5jYvPel

Wow, a ceasefire in Chicago would indeed be welcome news https://t.co/nJTpT8Boxl

In Chicago, in 2023, 576 people were shot and KILLED, and 2,501 others were shot and wounded.

Meanwhile, as Chicago prepares to host the Democratic National Convention later this year, Mayor Johnson’s approval ratings continue to tank:

Johnson is well on his way to becoming a one-term mayor at this rate. We’ve seen how this works out, though, and unfortunately it’s innocent people who end up paying the price for Democrats continuing to vote for woke and hoping in vain that things will be different with the next Democrat.
